With the ever shifting landscape of jobs due to the introduction of decision making AI and automation, a new set of skills are essential to be master by workers in 2023 and beyond.
Humanity, however, will not be redundant just yet as there are still jobs that require creativity, strategy, and emotional intelligence which machines can’t do as well as we do. Thus, therein lies the necessity for a “human’s touch.”
In 2023 and the coming future, those who wish to be successful must not simply continue to hone their skills to the absolute best but also augment their abilities with these so-called intelligent machines in places where they prove to be most beneficial for us. The following is my rundown of five skill sets to future-proof yourself.
Data Communicator/Storyteller
As we move into 2023, data communicator/storyteller will continue to be sought-after and value by various companies. Research conducted by Tableau showed that by 2025, 70% of jobs would work directly with data, increasing the need for people who can interpret, translate, and communicate it.
The skill sets require one to be able to communicate insight in a way that is easy to understand for the business and also explain where they came from, why they are essential for the company, and what to do with the data.
Data communicator/storyteller utilized written communications and visualization using tools such as PowerBI, Qlik, and Tableau to deliver the most efficient, memorable, and effective way to convey insights, and with the help of AI, data communicator/storyteller to find the best form of visualization.
Like most stories our parents tell us, there is almost always an implicit message for us to heed. The same thing can be apply to data storytelling. As businesses become increasingly data-centric, a company must be able to interpret the meaning behind an insight to avoid a make-or-break situation for its business.
Cybersecurity
With the emergence of remote working due to the pandemic, cybersecurity is now not only a matter of concern for an IT department but also for every company. Every employee is expect to be responsible for the data. They are entrust with and the security of their work platform.
The continued migration of aspects of our lives into the digital domain has significant implications for ways cybercriminals can make our lives unpleasant. As such, cybersecurity professionals can harness the use of AI to predict and cover multiple angles in which a cybercriminal may utilize a DDoS attack or steal our data. It’s a skill set that will continue to be useful as aspects of our lives become increasingly digital centric.
UX/UI Design
Digital transformation has effectively shifted every company into a tech company and every job into a tech job. This democratization of technology simply means that no matter the job, it is guaranteed to involve your skills technology to some extent. This is the part where UX/UI designers come into play, to make technologies accessible to anyone and everyone despite their backgrounds, and with the addition of AI, UX/UI designers can utilize AI-assisted analytics of user behavior to determine which features and functionality should be prioritize.
This will become more relevant as we move into the low-code/no-code platforms, in which companies have the strength to create applications for their clients or their workforces without needing to interact with software program engineers and execute prolonged and highly-priced software program improvement projects.
As the consumer continues to value experience above all else within a product, according to Qualtrics, a hassle-free, enjoyable, and positive experience is crucial for a company. The skillset of UX/UI Design will be increasingly in demand.
Digital Marketing
Our attention to product/service has become a precious commodity for a company, and it has become their number one priority to capture it. Digital marketing includes harnessing the cumulative strength of any range of technological answers designed to get the eye of clients and position your services and products in the front of their minds. From paid social media marketing to influencer-led campaigns, search engine optimization (SEO), e-mail marketing funnels, and the platform channels like metaverse and augmented reality (AR), digital marketing involves various virtual skills ranging from technical to creative. With the emergence of AI, marketers can further utilize them to segment their audiences.
