The number of orphans in Indonesia is quite high, even Vice President (Wapres) Ma’ruf Amin said, until September 2021 the number of orphans reached 28,000 people.
“According to reports received by the Ministry of Social Affairs, as of September 2021 the number is estimated to reach around 28,000 children,” said Ma’ruf at the Koran Khotmil and Prayer Together for 1,000 Orphans Dhuafa, which was broadcast online, Saturday (16/10/2021).
Ma’ruf said that one of the reasons why the number of orphans in Indonesia grew quite large was the result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The high number of orphans due to COVID-19 has also caused anxiety for children who have been left behind by their parents about their education and future. In fact, many of these children have to leave their education bench and feel as if they have to bury their dreams deep to pursue higher education.
Many orphans do not have the opportunity to continue their education and achieve their dreams of a career in entrepreneurship due to their lack of skills and funds. In Indonesia, there are still very few scholarships that specifically support orphans.
